Last January 17, Dunkin’ Donuts Philippines gifted fans a ‘bling-bling’ night with its latest ambassador, Korean drama star Kim Soo Hyun at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It has been less than a week, but the moments from that fun night lingers until now, so I want to take you with me in looking back at them. It’s like the chocolate from the scrumptious Boston Kreme (my Dunkin’ bias by the way) or the sugar dust from the Bavarian that sticks to your fingers. Both are finger-lickin’ good and you just can’t leave traces behind.
So, why not hop on and reminisce about those beautiful moments with me? Let’s ride.
BELLE MARIANO’S OPENING ACT
The crowd screamed their hearts out the time Belle showed up on stage in her stunning pink outfit. She electrified fans with a cover of Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s One Kiss. Then, the rising Kapamilya star serenaded the fans with her song, Sigurado.
When I tweeted these on Kmusify’s Twitter, my phone blew up. I know the event wasn’t about Belle, but Dunkin’ surely picked the right local endorsers in her and love-team partner, Donnie Pangilinan. The latter was not around, but what more if he was, right? It was the perfect opening act.
Following her performance, Dunkin’ immediately gave fans an early treat with Belle and Korean vlogger Jessica Lee drawing 3 lucky fans who would get to participate in a game with Soo Hyun later in the event.
KIM SOO HYUN TIME!
Energy set. It was time to meet the Hallyu heartthrob.
Soo Hyun appeared on stage and waved his hands to a sea of purple. Honestly, I haven’t seen a crowd erupt like that in a while. It was deafening. It was chaotically beautiful, and it amazed him too.
Asked about his expectations for the fan meet, Soo Hyun said that he set the standards high, but he bared that at that moment early on in the event, everything was already ‘more than expectation.’ The fans’ twinkling eyes and nonstop energy really caught his attention.
FUN GAMES WITH SOO HYUN VIA RAFFLE DRAW
After the initial interview with the My Love From The Star actor, Soo Hyun played the first game with 3 lucky fans who got the chance to answer a question from Soo Hyun.
Aside from this, another batch from the audience were selected via draw to have a photo opportunity with him. I know God does not have his favorites, but maybe those who were not picked had doubts that time. Kidding!
I am not gonna lie. I was surprised to see that his fans are not only composed of teenagers and young adults, but of titas and lolas too.
I know Filipino titas and lolas. They don’t watch dramas just because of the actors’ and actress’ appearance. They want quality acting as much. Thus, I believe this is a testament to his talent. He touches everyone’s hearts.
Third, Soo Hyun was tasked to pack Butternut variants under time limit. Of course, his fans were there to give their full support. Showcasing Dunkin’s new Butternut flavors (Cheesy, Choco Almond, Strawberry, and Ube Cheese), he then revealed that his favorite is the strawberry variant. Later on, he shared that he visited Dunkin’ branches in the Philippines and compared it to the ones they have in South Korea. Back home, it’s done in self-service kiosks, while over here, he marveled at how a nice experience it was to go to the counter and interact with the personnel for his order.
For the last game, the 34-year old celebrity had to guess the Philippine Symbols shown on the screen. Soo Hyun pointed out jeepney, turtle, durian, and tarsier (he drew cheers and laughter on this one. He definitely needed help).
THE ENDING TO A MAGICAL NIGHT
All good things must come to an end, but not with Soo Hyun. The end of his fan meet does not mean the last, so he vowed to come back the soonest.
“With all the love and support that I received today, I will do my best in my project and will make sure to see you, guys, as soon as possible again.”
“…do best in my project”?
Yes. Soo Hyun teased a new drama this 2023, so let’s do our best in waiting too.
And to save the best for last, he did not forget to express his love for his supporters. He culminated the event by saying, “Mahal kita.”
To close, I like to mention a line from the My Love From The Star OST that I am certain every supporter would want Soo Hyun to hear after the fan meet.
“You’re my delight of all.”
