It was a finally-got-to-see-you-again feeling for Lee Sung Kyoung and her fans in her 2023 Asia Fan Meeting in Manila [BE CLOSER] at the SM North EDSA Sky Dome last Saturday, July 8.

After four long years, the “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” star returned to the Philippines to spend another special time with her supporters.

The Korean actress, model, and singer kickstarted the fan meeting by singing IU’s “Hold My Hand,” which ultimately sent her fans into a frenzy.

Sung Kyoung couldn’t hide her longingness for and appreciation to everybody, revealing that she always checked up on her followers’ messages and encouragements given to her.

“I missed you guys so much! I was always reading the messages and cheers you’ve been sending me,” she said.

Waiting for a long time, the actress mentioned that she diligently prepared for this event because all she wanted was what is best for her fans.

“I really prepared for the things you like so please enjoy the moment!” -Sung Kyoung

The event began with the usual Q&A portion. The host asked about why she opted for the title Be Closer, coming from Be Joyful in her first Manila fan meet.

The answer was simple according to the “Call It Love” actress: she wanted to ‘be closer’ and ‘have this moment’ to show her ‘true self’ to her fans and that she did. How? The fan meet had four “steps” to get closer to Sung Kyung, and her followers made the most of each one.

The opening segment was called “6 Steps to You,” and it showed never-seen-before videos of Sung Kyung. The first one was a video of Sung Kyung enjoying the warmth of the sun… during winter.

Another highlight video was the actress’ gym workout which definitely turned up the heat inside the Sky Dome.

“I actually exercise a lot. I do full body [workout], but sometimes I choose the segments. One day is core, one day is back,” she revealed.

Later on, Sung Kyung told the fans that they were seeing all the good, then jokingly admitted that she also had bad days a normal human just like us.

Afterwards, there was a segment called “Sung Kyung’s awards” wherein the actress was given specific choices to choose from, while the fans try to guess what she picked. The first question was about the Filipino dish that she wanted to try. Among the options were Sinigang, Bulalo, Sisig, and Adobo. Sung Kyung took Sisig, but fans asked her to try Adobo.

Next, she was asked to choose one out of the four Filipino deserts: Bibingka, Halo-Halo, Mango Float, and Buko Pie. Sung Kyung went for the third option, but again due to her fans’ demand, she would also try Halo-Halo.

Then, screams filled the venue when Sung Kyung was given the next question about who among her male co-stars does she want to work with again in a future project. The choices were from Dr. Romantic, however, the actor that the fans clamored for was not there. So to be safe, the actress decided to choose everyone as she found it hard to pick just one, saying that she loves all of them ‘for real.’

At the end of the segment, the “Dr. Romantic” star took a break to prepare for her stage. She then came back in her Dr. Cha Eun Jae attire to serenade her fans with the medical drama’s OST. During her performance, it was like a doctor performing surgery on our hearts with her voice.

Sung Kyung then gave random lucky fans special gifts with five signed polaroids.

If those weren’t enough, the model-singer-actress kept on serving with dance performances of Destiny Rogers’ “Tomboy,” IVE’s “AFTER LIKE,” and LE SSERAFIM’s “UNFORGIVEN.”

In the “Three Steps to You” segment, Sung Kyung played TMI OX with all the fans. They had to answer if they thought that the statement about her is true or not, and the last one standing would win a personalized tumbler designed by the actress. With two fans not letting go of the victory, the winner was ultimately decided via Bato-Bato-Pik with eyes closed.

The next part was the penultimate “2 Steps to You: Heart-Pounding Relay Game.” Lucky representatives from different zones were chose to face each other, with Sung Kyung joining all teams. The actress and the participants jump-roped, played the Korean game “Tuho,” and the Pinoy game “Sipa” much to the delight of the fans.

And for the final “One Step to You,” Sung Kyung continued to play for her fans. She did the Finger Punch, Bottle-Flip, and the Pipe Game. It didn’t matter if she won or not. It didn’t matter if she’d run out of breath. In the end, the lovely actress just wanted to keep her followers happy. She performed the “I’m sorry for being cute” challenge, threw lucky balls to the audience, and gave out 10 polaroid pictures to the fans chosen via raffle.

To end the fan meet, Sung Kyung once again showcased her majestic voice by singing the Disney song “Reflection.”

It was the end but she didn’t want to go. She stayed on stage to dance to songs requested by the fans and continued to talk to them, reflecting on the relationship they built together.

Filipino fans are the best. As a person who wants to express how I feel, I feel grateful for all the expressions you gave me. I feel very more thankful. Thank you so much and I love you guys. I’m so touched. Mahal ko kayo! Mahal ko kayo! I’m not gonna cry. But when I get home I’m gonna cry. You know our staffs at the back and also family. We’re really touched by passion and cheers.
