July 17th marks the day South Korea’s adorable trio Sam, William, and Bentley Hammington finally meet their Filipino fans.
The 2-hour event was jam-packed with gigil (Tagalog: expression of thrill over something cute), laughter, and even tears. But ultimately, it has left precious and JUANderful (wordplay of the Filipino name ‘Juan‘ and ‘wonderful’) memories we surely won’t forget.
The Hammingtons
The Hammington family gained love and popularity by participating in the South Korean hit program “The Return of Superman,” which featured the daily life of a father (Sam) raising two kids (William and Bentley).
The Hammingtons have been on the show for five years until they finally decided to leave and start a new venture.
A lot of fans expressed their sadness over the news, but soon after,The Hammingtons launched their very own Youtube channel, “THE WILBEN SHOW,” to cater to a wider audience.

The two kids’ focus was solely on the “air hockey table” when they first entered the stage. After only a brief chat with the host, they hurriedly walked over to the gaming table to play. What are kids here for, right?
3. Competitive
Games are mandatory for any event with children. So when introduced to the “newspaper dance,” a game Filipinos love playing during parties, The Hammingtons were really attentive while listening to the mechanics.
They got to play and interact with a lucky fan. William, paired with the fan, won the newspaper dance game, which got the poor Bentley disappointed.

William and Bentley spoke English, Korean, and got to learn Tagalog too!
They learned phrases like “pogi ako” (I’m handsome), “mahal ko kayo” (I love all of you), and “salamat po” (thank you) in just a short time. Bentley even ran around yelling “makulit ako” (I’m naughty), which made every one in the crowd burst into laughter.

Their ability to grasp phrases and even difficult words like “kumustahan” (action of greeting / to ask how a person is doing) and “tuklasin” (to explore) is truly amazing.
5. Entertaining
The Hammingtons got to taste some popular Filipino cuisine like adobo, lechon, champorado, and banana cue while wearing traditional Filipino clothing.
Adobo is a dish that Sam and William particularly enjoyed and believe will be enjoyed by people everywhere.
Sam also loved the famous lechon and said it’s the most tender pork he’s ever had while his son, William thinks it tastes like a “burnt pig”, which made every one from the crowd laugh once again.

William also made clever comments on champorado, a chocolate rice porridge made with sticky rice and tablea, saying that he didn’t like the idea of combining food and snack. Not to mention the banana cue, which for him tasted like doughnut dipped in banana sauce.
Unfortunately, Bentley wasn’t in the mood for this segment. But when he watched his father and sibling enjoying these foods, he appeared to be quite intrigued.
6. Empathic
Despite their silly, playful, and tough nature, William and Bentley couldn’t help but empathize with their dad whenever they see him cry.
Sam burst into tears when he expressed his gratitude for the immense support Filipino fans showed toward them. He added that they have been receiving messages from Filipino fans for the longest time and this was his way of giving back to all of them.
Takeaway
The fact that these kids are truly exceptional is one of the greatest takeaways we got from taking part in this incredible event with The Hammingtons. Underneath their small stature are big hearts that know how to love and appreciate those around them, especially their fans. This demonstrates that Sam and his wife, Yumi are excellent parents.

We went to the fan meeting excited, but returned home with mixed feelings of joy, wistfulness, and attachment to the Hammingtons. In fact, it felt more like a family gathering than a fan meeting and I am not complaining.
