The Morning of SS9
The morning of SS9 in Manila was a gloomy day with the rain dampening the mood, along with the fans’ concerns and worries. Finally, news came in from Pulp and SM Entertainment on Twitter about the show and as dreaded, the concert is cancelled, or rather postponed, due to the passing of Eunhyuk’s father.
The night before the long-awaited Super Show 9 in Manila, fans had already been expressing concern for Eunhyuk with “Hyukjae” trending on Twitter, unaware of the current situation with the boys and unable to see his face in the airport photos. In videos seen of Leeteuk in Incheon before flying to Manila, he was seen running back and forth frantically between the members’ cars
Fans had still attended the concert and were prepared to accept whatever decision Super Junior and Happee Sy would make. At show time, Kring Kim came out to update and console the fans as she empathized with how the PH ELFs felt with the news that came in the morning. She shared that the boys have some words to tell PH ELFs themselves along with wanting to see their faces.
Super Junior makes their appearance
Super Junior makes their appearance and does their iconic greeting before moving on to their messages one by one.
Starting off with Shindong. After introducing himself, Shindong finds it hard to speak after saying “I didn’t expect this many of you would come. I would like to apologize again” while fans cheer “Gwaenchana/It’s okay”
Ryeowook shares “So many of you have come. We feel very apologetic that we can’t proceed with the concert. It would be great if you guys keep healthy and since we’re gonna see each other a lot, don’t worry too much. Since we’ll be coming back and Eunhyuk and Siwon, please wait for us”
Donghae says “I think of all the concerts I’ve done in front of a lot of people, starting off with this kind of message at the start of a concert is a first for me. More than being nervous about performing, I feel the only expression I could give right now is my sincerest apologies. And to our friend who is facing a very unfortunate situation in Korea right now. It pains me that we can’t be with him.”
Yesung starts off with “I really missed you all” before continuing on to say “As much as you’ve missed and waited for us, that’s how much we’ve missed you and our members who couldn’t be with us share the same sentiments. Even during this sad situation, I’m sure those members would still be worried all the same. It’s been so long since we last met, it’s unfortunate that we could only share these messages rather than our performances. I am sincerely sorry and I would like to think that we would meet each other soon. With this in heart, we’d like to repay you with a great performance. And I hope we could also be with Eunhyuk who can’t be with us today.”
Kyuhyun first says “Mabuhay. It’s regrettable that I wouldn’t be able to greet you guys with a smiling face. I’m sure you’ve come a long way to this arena and seeing how full the concert hall is is surprising. Thank you for coming”
And lastly Leeteuk finishes their messages off with some sweet words saying “Mabuhay. I hope you’re not all feeling so down. To be honest, even while we were in Korea, we went through a lot of discussion, deciding whether to come to the Philippines or not. But we found that meeting and greeting the fans who have waited for us for a long time is the right decision. As soon as we arrived in the Philippines at dawn, at around 3AM, we’ve been in a meeting ever since. Our Super Show is a happy, fun, and hope-giving event. To give a more completely happy, enjoyable, and hope-giving show, rather than cancelling the show, we’re delaying/postponing it a bit. Think of it as buying the tickets early. This is actually a 1 day show, right? I asked the promoter a favor to add a 2nd day. I’m sure some of you may have been affected by the postponement so this is the least we could do. In order to make our beloved ELFs and our beloved staff happy, we’ll come back as soon as possible with Siwon in the center and beside me is Eunhyuk who’s a bit like a doppelganger and we’d be happier so we could meet everyone’s pretty faces again. For our beautiful ELFs who continue to become more beautiful, we, the members, have prepared what little present we can. With the heart that wants to make ELFs happy, we don’t want to just leave without singing so we’ll be performing ‘I Wish’”
The Show
They performed a total of 3 songs, even walking down the stage to see the fans closer before going back up the stage to perform their last song, More Days With You. Right before performing their last song, Leeteuk shared sweet words saying “Thank you to our ELFs who have walked the journey with us for 18 years. From now on, you’ll still be with us on our journey, right?”

Kring comes out soon after the boys leave and explains how the tickets bought for SS9 on August 6 would be honored for the rescheduled Super Show 9 in Manila sometime in 2022. For those who want to have their tickets refunded, they may also await for updates on how the process will go. Kring also went on to praise Pulp and Happee Sy on how they handled the situation and that the concert would be rescheduled, tickets would be honored at no extra cost
The show wrapped up with fans being assured that the tickets they bought would still be worth the concert they were expecting and were assured that the boys would have time to grieve with and support Eunhyuk.
