South Korean Rapper and Ment’s RAP:PUBLIC star James An recently touched down in Manila, to present his research on Korean Hip-Hop at the University of the Philippines Korean Research Center. In addition to his academic pursuits, James continues to make waves in the music scene with his EP “I Have No Friends and I Must Party”, showcasing his meaningful lyricism and captivating sound. Adding to his momentum, he joined the highly anticipated Korean Hip-Hop reality show, RAP:PUBLIC as part of BLOCK 3 TRINITY, cementing his position as a rising force in the industry.
It’s not every day you meet someone who seamlessly balances both intellect and artistry, armed with degrees from the Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard Graduate School of Education, James pulls it off effortlessly. Despite his impressive credentials, he keeps things humble, winning over Filipino fans and the media alike with his down-to-earth personality.
In Kmusify’s exclusive chat with James, he shared his heartfelt journey, from early hip-hop influences like Eminem, 50 Cent, and Drunken Tiger, to writing his own lyrics in college and battling moments of self-doubt to pursue his passion for music. He also reflected on memorable moments, like rapping about Harvard to unexpected praise, and the unique experience of filming a music video with his dog, Sasha, who surprised the crew with her stellar “acting” skills.
