The PICC Plenary Hall turned pink on October 1 as excited fans of cherry prince Park Chanyeol flocked the venue to attend his first ever solo fanmeet in Manila, “Chanyeol For Ever Bilena.” The event, organized by Ever Bilena PH and Rise Media PH, was a resounding success with Filipino EXO-Ls and Yeolmaes.
It hadn’t been long since Chanyeol last stepped foot in the Philippines, the last one being just a few months prior when he held a back-to-back fancon with fellow EXO member Oh Sehun as the sub-unit, EXO-SC. Even then he greeted the fans with his signature enthusiasm, showing everyone why he has been dubbed as EXO’s “Happy Virus.”
When Ever Bilena announced Chanyeol as its brand ambassador in August, the news caught the attention of fans, causing the hashtag #ChanyeolForEverBilena to trend on X. PH EXO-Ls and Yeolmaes showed their full support of Chanyeol’s endorsement as Ever Bilena’s first ever male ambassador. The fanmeet was hosted by actress and K-pop fan Denise Laurel.
Chanyeol’s crooning vocals in “Nothin’” signaled the start of the fan meet. Right off the bat Chanyeol was mischievous and playful, putting the “fun” in his solo fun meet as he joked around with the host. He was also eager to model the products he was endorsing, describing them to fans with a smile on his face.
Chanyeol surprised his beloved Filipino fans with his rendition of Yeng Constantino’s “Hawak Kamay,” causing the PICC Plenary Hall to sing along with him in joy. Chanyeol expressed nervousness at performing in front of his fans on his own, but said that seeing their warm response and sincere support made the uncertainty melt away. He even said that he wasn’t supposed to sing during the fan meet, but he insisted because he wanted to give something more to his fans.
In the middle of the fan meet, Denise, the host, humored the fans as she urged everyone to ask Chanyeol something formally–”Will you marry me?” – to which Chanyeol, without hesitation, responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!” The fans immediately felt a wave of kilig, making the venue echo excitedly with screams and cheers. Chanyeol followed this up later on by describing his fans as “ beautiful everyday.”
Aside from promoting products of the cosmetic brand, performing songs, and interacting with his fans, Chanyeol also showed off his charms by participating in the games prepared just for him. He showed off his, ehem, athletic prowess with sipa; and how good he was at context clues when he tried to guess what the Filipino words onscreen meant.
Nearing the end of the event, Chanyeol watched an SDE (same-day edit) of his fan meet, and the special project prepared for him by the fans. Misty-eyed, Chanyeol said he “wanted to live a better life from now on,” since he was so moved by the love and support fans had for him. He added, “while watching this video, you made me realize that my existence itself already gives you a lot of strength. So I have this determination that I cannot live without trying my best or trying harder.”
Overall, the event was a success. Chanyeol and the Filipino EXO-L’s and Yeolmaes were able to celebrate his first ever solo fan meet in Manila with smiles and a whole lot of love.
