K-Pop concerts were among the biggest live events in the Philippines to fall prey to the pandemic. And, after a two-year hiatus from live events, PULP Live World is back to fulfilling more dreams for the Philippines’ ever-growing K-Pop community.

On the 2022 K-Pop Masterz in Manila, which took place on July 29th at the Mall of Asia Arena, we were reminded of the greatest pleasure we’d been missing out on as we gathered once again for an enthralling night with TREASURE, GOT7 members’ BamBam and Jackson Wang

1. A First Date to ‘TREASURE’

TREASURE is one of the K-pop idol groups that made their debut during the pandemic. However, this did not deter the growth of their international fanbases, including the PH TEUME (Filipino ‘Treasure Maker’).

On a Friday night, the boys arrived at the MOA Arena for the first time to meet their Filipino fans. But, unlike most first dates, this one felt more like a get-together with friends, because, as the boys mentioned, they had sensed the PH TEUME‘s presence long before they met.

TREASURE made the night memorable for the PH TEUME

In a segment called ‘Treasure Match,’ they were split into two teams and played games like telepathy and the ‘ddakji’ game. Hyunsuk named their group, ‘Team Mahal Kita’ (I love you), while Jihoon‘s group was called ‘Team Gwapo’ (handsome). The winning team gets a photo time opportunity with PH TEUME. The boys were so full of energy that the host, Kring Kim, had to tell them to listen first to the mechanics of the game, which everyone found cute.

Apparently, no one won the game, so the PH TEUME were given a photo time opportunity with all of the TREASURE members to commemorate the memorable first date.

The boys performed a variety of powerful and moving songs, including ‘JIKJN’, ‘BOY’, and ‘DARARI.’ Furthermore, allowing their fans to witness their first performance of ‘My Treasure’ made this day even more significant.

The boys ended their appearance by alluding at a possible return, saying

Salamat, babalik kami agad.

TREASURE

Despite the absence of two of their members from the tour, TREASURE were able to fill the hearts of their Filipino fans on this first date.

2. BamBam ‘Shot Puno!’ (Full Shot!)

The second performer is none other than GOT7‘s BamBam

‘Double B’ arrived in a stunning black glittery top to meet his beloved Filipino fans, PH AGHASE, but what really stood out was his adorable, friendly, and genuine personality, which shined even brighter than the clothes he was wearing.

The interview with BamBam was one I could not forget as we got to hear about his hilarious experiences visiting Cebu and Manila for his first fan signing event prior to the show.

#BamBamShotPuno

He mentioned that he had been to the country a couple of times but this time was particularly the best, because he was able to try new Filipino food like the delicious ‘daing na bangus’ (marinated milkfish), as well as learn Tagalog phrases like ‘shot puno’ (full shot).

BamBam also mentioned that he’d like to visit the night markets in the Philippines, but because our night markets aren’t very prominent, the crowd jokingly suggested that he opens a night market for his Filipino fans, which he decides to name the ‘BamBam Shot Puno’ night market.

#Bamngus

When asked about his favorite nickname, he stated,

I used to like the nickname ‘Baby BamBam,’ but right now, people call me ‘milkfish’ or ‘Bamngus.’

BAMBAM

After spending some time in Cebu, he developed a taste for ‘bangus’, which he would eat everyday. He added,

It’s the best fish I’ve ever had in my life.

BAMBAM

BamBam, being the humble person that he is, didn’t think he was good-looking, which the fans disagreed with, and as the host, Kring Kim, reiterated,

There are a lot of good-looking guys, but they are not BamBam.

KRING KIM, HOST

BamBam also mentioned he would never dream of being someone else, because he is happy with who he is, to which the crowd applauded.

Apart from the fruitful conversation with BamBam, the star delivers juicy performances. He sang a couple of amazing songs including ‘Wheels Up,’ ‘Look So Fine’, and a captivating performance of ‘Who Are You.’

‘Ngiti’

He also fulfilled his promise to PH AGHASE to once again sing, “Ngiti” by Ronnie Liang, which had the entire MOA Arena crowd singing along. Check out BamBam‘s rendition of the song here.

He then invited his label mate Sandara ‘Dara’ Park of 2NE1 to the stage, who was on vacation in the Philippines. They performed an acoustic rendition of 2NE1’s ‘I Don’t Care.’ And it concluded with BamBam performing his cute bop song, ‘riBBon’

BamBam thanked his Filipino fans and expressed his desire to return, either solo or with GOT7.

3. Jackson Ignites the Manila Stage

Last but not least, GOT7′s Jackson Wang delivers entrancing performance for the PH AGHASE

Jackson kicked off the show with a fiery performance of his recently released song, ‘Cruel,’ followed by a stunning performance of ‘Blow.’

The crowd’s cheer echoed throughout the venue as soon as Jackson arrived, but it became even louder, almost blowing off the roof, as Jackson began to interact with the host with vigor and charm.

Jackson talked about how Filipino fans’ passion is on another level, as he mentioned,

When they cheer for you, you know they mean it. That wave just comes to me and hits me.

JACKSON WANG

Despite his reputation for unwavering confidence, Jackson admits to having nervous breakdowns during performances. He was so nervous during his Coachella performance in April 2022 that he forgot to spit his gum. When asked how he’s feeling today, he stated,

I’m so nervous too, but luckily I wasn’t chewing gum.

JACKSON WANG

The PH AGHASE is well aware that Jackson enjoys using whatever Tagalog he knows in any situation involving Filipinos. It’s amusing how he keeps saying, ‘isa, dalawa, TA-TA-lo’ (one, two, th-three) throughout the show.

Jackson, the all-rounder, continued with a performance of his incredible song, ‘You Drive It Like You Stole It,’ a track from his self-produced album ‘Magic Man.’

And, of course, he wouldn’t leave without revealing his true colors with ‘100 Ways.’

Next Level Experience

The performances at K-Pop Masterz in Manila have taken us to a whole new level. I cannot emphasize enough how incredible the music and choreographies are.

Not to mention how the idols warmed our hearts after being unable to meet them in person for years. Regardless of fandom, everyone cheered together and showed support for all three performers. That is what’s inspiring about the K-Pop community in the Philippines.

Thank you to PULP Live World for allowing us to be a part of the incredible experience that we all missed.
