River Where the Moon Rises is adapted from a Korean folktale recorded in The History of the Three Kingdoms and based on Princess Pyeonggang. Born as a princess but raised as a soldier, young Pyeonggang sets out on a tour of the kingdom with her mother, the Empress, during which they arrive at a village where they meet General On Hyeop and his son, On Dal. Sharing with him her goal of becoming Goguryeo’s first queen with her intellect and confidence, the straightforward On Dal laughs at her lofty dreams as women do not engage in state affairs, though he means no harm. Meanwhile, the Empress is seeking help from General On Hyeop due to the schemes and conspiracies ongoing in the kingdom, but the two are assassinated in the process. The story follows Pyeonggang’s quest to uncover dark and dangerous conspiracies in the kingdom.

SPOILER ALERT! Episode 1 premiered on February 16, 2021 via Viu’s online platform. The start of this episode was a battle that Pyeonggang (Kim So Hyun) and On Dal (Ji soo) were fighting together. Pyeonggang is searching for On Dal during the fight and when she saw him injured but she’s relieved that he’s alive. He said we won and then they shared a kiss. (TMI for the first episode you can feel the love, YES!) END OF SPOILER!

The first episode is a full-blast action between battle and betrayal which is the reason why the story is so interesting and kept us thinking about what will happen next. Kim So Hyun’s actions skills are way beyond what I expected and Ji Soo’s charms will capture your hearts once more. The drama is set during Goguryeo period which is rarely being used in Korean History drama so you’ll be more curious about the storyline. The drama was well cast and everyone portrayed their role well.
